The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), ABU Zaria, hosted its Career Fair 2025 on July 26, 2025, at the CBN Centre of Excellence Auditorium. Themed “Bridging the Career Divide: Empowering Northern Talent for Global Relevance,” the event aimed to guide students toward meaningful career development.

The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Junaidu, Dean of Student Affairs, ABU Zaria, delivered inspiring remarks. He urged students to start thinking critically about their future career paths and to identify where they want to go and what they want to achieve. He further encouraged them to develop their talents, remain productive, and seize opportunities both visible and hidden.

One of the event’s highlights was a keynote speech by Engr. M. S. Ingawa, an energy specialist, project management expert, technical assistant to the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and former Wakeel of NAMET. Sharing his career journey across five states and four geopolitical zones, he emphasized that while opportunities exist in the North, many young people lack the skills, exposure, confidence, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones to pursue them.

Engr. Ingawa also addressed both graduate and undergraduate students who aspire to work in the corporate sector. He listed five essential tips:

1. Remedy your degree

2. Skill up

3. Volunteer

4. Start small

5. Pray

The event featured a panel discussion where seasoned professionals shared impactful insights from their personal journeys.

Malam Mustapha Salihu Umar, a Computer Science graduate from ABU and NHEF scholar, encouraged students not to let their grades define them. He stressed the value of extracurricular activities and urged students to grab every opportunity, reminding them that “there might be no next time.” He also advised students to remain calm during interviews, suggesting they ask for a moment to compose themselves when nervous.

Malam Yazid Salahuddeen Mikail, a final year Chemical Engineering student, amazed the audience with his achievements, including international work experiences. He highlighted that confidence is a skill and encouraged students to ask questions, seek information, and start even if they are not 100% qualified.

The event also included engaging extracurricular activities. Students participated in fun Kahoot games and an online quiz competition, with winners receiving exciting rewards.
