The Mass Communication student team (Class of U19/U21) has made history by qualifying for the final of the ongoing Faculty of Social Sciences Dean’s Cup for the very first time. The thrilling semi-final took place today, Monday, at 1 p.m. on the Phase 2 field.
The journey to the final was not easy as Mass Communication was initially declared as the “best loser” to qualify for the quarterfinals, where they played against 300 level Economics. That match ended 1–1 in regular time, before Mass Communication triumphed 4–3 in a tensed penalty shootout, availing Mass Communication Department to confront 300 level International Studies at Semi-Final.
The game showcased the team’s determination, discipline, and teamwork under the guidance of their head coach, Alhaji Sani. His tactical strategies paid off as Mustapha scored the one goal in the second half, securing a 1–0 victory for Mass Communication and a historic ticket to the finals.
This achievement comes just a month after the class celebrated their back to back championship victory in the HOD’s Cup, proving their consistency and strength on the field. Players, officials, and supporters all expressed joy and pride in the team’s resilience, teamwork, and academic spirit.
For the first time in history, Mass Communication U19/U21 will play in the final of the Dean’s Cup, creating unforgettable memories for the department and setting a new standard for excellence both in sports and academics.
