Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State was injured in a road accident on Sunday, July 20, 2025, along the Daura Katsina highway. The incident occurred during a private journey and was not part of the governor’s official convoy.
According to Premium Times, the accident involved a head-on collision between the governor’s vehicle and an overloaded Volkswagen Golf car. Eyewitnesses reported that the Golf driver lost control due to excess load and an extra passenger beside him, which led to the vehicle's engine bursting on impact.
Inside the governor’s car were three occupants: Governor Radda, who reportedly sustained a chest injury; his Chief of Staff, who was also badly hurt; and a member of the House of Representatives, who suffered a fractured thigh. The Golf vehicle occupants were all injured, with some sustaining broken bones.
The Guardian Newspaper confirmed that the governor was first taken to a hospital in Daura for emergency treatment, before being transferred to another medical facility due to the severity of his injuries. Officials have clarified that the governor was not traveling with his official escort at the time of the accident.
As of press time, no formal statement has been released by the Katsina State Government regarding the governor’s current condition.
The news has sparked concern among residents. “We pray for the quick recovery of our governor and all those injured,” one resident expressed.
