Her Words, My Light

  By KEMI OLUPITAN U21MM2002

I sat in the cool evening sun

Basking in the dying glory of a beauty

Reminiscing on how glory filled was the sun

Then remembering I shouldn’t feel pity

Because it now fades back into oblivion smoothly

Mother once told me about a word

Mother said it will Enlighten and Educate

If only I will always allow it have a word

With me even at seventy years of age

Mother said when making a Decision it will stand

So that I can better the world Understand

It will help me with Communication

To get that much deserved Attention

Showcasing that enhanced and polished Talent

Discovered with the right Interaction

With much more enhanced and polished talents

Who supports an Originality in creation

Of a new and understated reality

Soon to take center stage

This, Mother promised, will bring Notability

Through any and many to come age

Mother was right

Mother was always right

Now as her name and face fade

Her memory and voice strongly remain

Now today I stand

Representing what education is

Being able to communicate even with an island

Telling all that learning never ceases

Until the day you cease to exist
