The people of Zamfara State are mourning the loss of His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, who reportedly passed away today in Abuja at the age of 71, following a protracted illness.
The news was confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, the spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, in an official statement released to the media on Wednesday, July 24, 2025.
Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who became the 16th Emir of Gusau after succeeding his father on March 16, 2015, served the emirate and the people of Zamfara with dedication and dignity for nearly a decade.
Before his ascension to the throne, the late Emir had an illustrious career in the civil service, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary. He served in both the former Sokoto State and Zamfara State, with a public service record spanning over ten years.

In a condolence message, Governor Dauda Lawal described the Emir’s death as a personal loss, noting that the royal father was more than a leader; he was a confidant and a strong supporter of the state’s development efforts.
"I express my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the immediate and extended families of the late Emir, as well as the entire people of Zamfara."

Governor Lawal also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the soul of the Emir, asking that he be granted Aljannah Firdausi.
Dr. Ibrahim Bello’s reign will be remembered for his commitment to unity, progress, and peaceful leadership. He left behind a legacy of public service, integrity, and humility that deeply touched the people of Zamfara.
